U-505, a type IXC submarine, was launched by the German Kriegsmarine on May 24, 1941. This U-boat was responsible for sinking seven vessels and losing 44,962 gross register tonnage over twelve patrols. However, U-505 was captured on June 4, 1944 by Allied Task Group 22.3 and became one of only 6 U-boats to be captured during World War II. After the war, U-505 became a museum ship at the Museum of Science + Industry Chicago, where it remains today. This model of U-505 is a 797-piece set that measures 2" w x 15" l x 4.5" h and comes with a base that measures 2" w x 6" l x 4.5" h. It is recommended for ages 14 and up.
